Where it came from
Curse of Surveillance was released as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set in September 2021. Designed for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, it reflects the gothic horror theme of the Innistrad plane, which draws inspiration from classic monster tropes and folklore. The card serves as a blue enchantment that leans into the set's focus on investigative mechanics and card draw, encouraging players to delve deeper into the game's evolving mysteries.
The artwork for this specific promo version, numbered 46p, captures the eerie, overcast atmosphere characteristic of the set's aesthetic. Illustrators for the Innistrad expansion were tasked with emphasizing the tension and gloom of a world trapped in an eternal night. The card was well-received by the player base for its strategic utility in Commander and other casual formats, and this promo variant is particularly sought after for its distinct frame and thematic art.
