Where it came from
Damnable Pact was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. The card functions as a scaling draw spell that utilizes black mana to provide card advantage at the cost of life, fitting the high-stakes, decadent atmosphere of the New Capenna plane, which is heavily inspired by 1920s Art Deco aesthetics and organized crime tropes.
The artwork for this specific printing was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan. The illustration captures the deal-making essence of the set's demon-led criminal families, using dramatic shadows and vibrant, gold-accented color palettes to evoke the prosperity and corruption central to the world-building of the New Capenna setting.
