Decree of Justice

Decree of Justice was released in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering set Scourge, the final installment of the Onslaught block. Designed as a powerful sorcery with a cycling ability, the card reflected the set's mechanical focus on mana-intensive spells and the synergy between cycling and graveyard interactions. It was created to provide white decks with a flexible late-game finisher, allowing players to either create a large army of Angel tokens or generate a smaller force of Soldiers depending on the available mana resources.

The card’s striking illustration was crafted by artist Kev Walker, who has been a prominent contributor to the game for decades. Walker’s aesthetic often leans into moody, high-contrast imagery, and for Decree of Justice, he captured a sense of celestial authority and impending divine retribution. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its versatility, particularly in control archetypes where it served as both a board-presence stabilizer and an uncounterable threat when cycled.
