Desert Twister

Desert Twister was released in 1994 as part of the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering, the third core set for the trading card game. It served as a reprint of the card originally introduced in the earlier Unlimited Edition, intended to expand access to the game during a period of rapid growth for the hobby. The card was designed as a versatile green spell capable of destroying any permanent, a powerful and fundamental effect that helped define the color pie’s early mechanics.

The artwork for Desert Twister was created by artist Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous illustrations to the game's early sets. His style for this piece leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the era, depicting a localized sandstorm meant to represent the destruction of a targeted object. Like many cards from the Revised Edition, it is known for its white border, which distinguished it from the black-bordered cards of previous limited printings, a design choice that remains a distinct hallmark of the set today.
