Desert Twister

Desert Twister was originally released in the Arabian Nights expansion in 1993, later appearing in the Fifth Edition core set as card number 288. It serves as a foundational green card that grants players the ability to destroy any permanent, a notable departure from green's traditional limitations in early Magic: The Gathering gameplay. The card represents the color's capacity to emulate other colors' removal spells at a higher mana cost, reflecting the early design philosophy that allowed for color bleed in the game's initial iterations.

The artwork for the Fifth Edition version utilizes the established illustration by Jeff A. Menges, who provided much of the iconic, high-fantasy aesthetic for the game's earliest sets. His design captures the chaotic energy of a swirling sandstorm, consistent with the card's theme of environmental destruction. Upon its introduction, the card was received as a versatile utility piece for green decks that otherwise lacked reliable answers to artifacts, enchantments, or creatures in their opponent's board state.
