Where it came from
Double Major was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was specifically featured as a promotional card, often distributed through events or set-themed marketing initiatives. The card mechanically captures the academic theme of the Strixhaven University setting, where the focus is on the magical study of different colleges within a prestigious institution.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Magali Villeneuve, who is well-regarded for her work within the fantasy genre and her extensive contributions to the game’s aesthetic. The design aims to visualize the concept of magical duplication or academic focus, utilizing the visual language of the Prismari college to align with the game's broader narrative goals. Upon release, it was received as a flavorful addition to the set, specifically valued by players for its unique ability to copy spells in a way that emphasizes the game's core principles of strategy and resource management.
