Where it came from
Double Major was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set, specifically appearing in the Mystical Archive subset. The card was designed to represent the academic theme of the set, which focuses on a magical university where students study various disciplines. This particular card showcases the unique aesthetic of the Mystical Archive, featuring specialized, ornate frame treatments designed to evoke the feeling of ancient, scholarly scrolls and archival research materials.
The artwork for this version was commissioned to emphasize the duality inherent in the spell's effect, which allows a player to create a copy of a creature spell. In the context of the game's mechanics, the card received attention for its versatility in Commander and other casual formats. It is widely recognized by players for its distinctive visual identity that separates it from standard card releases, serving as a functional collectible that highlights the intersection of game strategy and academic fantasy art.
