Provenance

Where it came from

The Drake token, numbered 5 in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 to support the Western-themed expansion of the Magic: The Gathering card game. These tokens serve as physical representations of creatures generated by specific cards within the set, functioning as essential gameplay aids that mirror the aesthetic and narrative elements of the plane of Thunder Junction.

The design of these tokens was developed by the internal Magic: The Gathering art team to align with the frontier-fantasy motif of the set, emphasizing creatures that fit the rugged, lawless environment. As a mass-produced utility item meant for tournament and casual play, the token reflects the established visual identity of modern Magic releases, prioritizing thematic consistency and functional clarity for players engaged in the Commander format.
