Provenance

Where it came from

The Drake token from the Foundations set was introduced as part of the broader Magic: The Gathering Foundations release, which serves as a cornerstone entry point for new and returning players. Designed to function as an auxiliary piece for specific card abilities that create creature tokens, this item adheres to the visual language established by Wizards of the Coast to ensure clarity during gameplay. The art direction emphasizes a high-fantasy aesthetic consistent with the creature's established lore within the multiverse.

The Foundations set, and its associated tokens, were curated to provide a stable, evergreen experience that anchors the game's mechanics. Illustrators contributing to this series are tasked with maintaining thematic coherence, ensuring that each token is easily distinguishable on the battlefield while reflecting the stylistic evolution of contemporary digital fantasy art. Upon release, these tokens were received as practical utility items, valued by players for their role in streamlining the logistical management of complex game states.
