What it does
Rule Zero — Whenever this creature enters the battlefield, and before the game begins if this creature is your commander, you may propose a new rule that is contained to this game of Magic. If all players in the game agree to it, that rule becomes true for this game. If one or more players decline, instead you scry 2. (If this is your commander, scry after keeping your hand.)

Where it came from
The Clever Magician, designated RU04a, emerged from a collection of promotional cards distributed during a limited-run event. These cards were designed as part of a series intended to highlight character archetypes often found in fantasy tabletop lore. While the specific illustrator is not credited on the card face, the art style reflects the clean, illustrative aesthetic popular in mid-2010s digital card gaming, utilizing vibrant colors and distinct character poses to ensure readability during gameplay.
The reception of this series was primarily limited to the local community that attended the event, as the set was never released to the wider mass market. Collectors value the item primarily for its scarcity and its role as a representative example of the ephemeral, event-exclusive promotional material that defined that era of hobby gaming. Its design prioritizes utility for the player, with clear iconography that keeps the focus firmly on the character's thematic role within the game engine.
