Where it came from
Ethereal Guidance was released in 2016 as part of the Shadows over Innistrad expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set in the gothic-horror inspired plane of Innistrad, the card reflects the desperate themes of the storyline, where inhabitants seek divine protection against the encroaching madness and corruption of the Eldrazi titan Emrakul.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work captures the ethereal, ghostly aesthetic prevalent throughout the set. Designed as a common-rarity enchantment, it functions as a thematic representation of spiritual warding, emphasizing the struggle between the dwindling human forces and the overwhelming supernatural threats that characterize this chapter of the game's lore.
