Where it came from
Evil Boros Charm was released in 2019 as part of the Mystery Booster playtest cards, a collection of unique, non-tournament-legal prototypes designed to explore eccentric and unconventional mechanics. These cards were primarily distributed through Mystery Booster convention packs at events like MagicFest, intended to provide players with a glimpse into experimental design concepts that did not fit within the constraints of standard sets.
The design of this specific card features a stark, minimalist aesthetic typical of the playtest series, focusing on functional text rather than traditional card art. It was conceived as a 'color-shifted' or subversive take on the original Boros Charm, utilizing the aggressive red and white color identity while subverting its typical utility-focused effects into something more chaotic, reflecting the playful and often surreal nature of Wizards of the Coast's R&D internal testing processes.
