Where it came from
Evolving Wilds first appeared in the Rise of the Eldrazi set in 2010 as a functional land card designed to assist players in managing their mana bases by searching for basic lands. Its inclusion in the 2022 Warhammer 40,000 Commander release marked a thematic departure, re-contextualizing the card within the grimdark aesthetic of the 41st millennium. This specific version features unique artwork commissioned to align with the brutal, war-torn environments typical of the Warhammer universe.
The art for this iteration was created by artist Games Workshop, adapting the card's traditional mechanical function to fit the lore of the Imperium of Man and the endless conflicts across the galaxy. The design aesthetic emphasizes the oppressive and industrial atmosphere of the setting, moving away from the typical fantasy landscapes found in standard Magic: The Gathering card art. Upon release, this version was well-received by players looking to integrate Warhammer-themed aesthetics into their decks while maintaining the utility of a foundational land card.
