Evolving Wilds

Evolving Wilds first appeared in the Rise of the Eldrazi set in 2010, designed as a functional utility land to assist players with mana fixing in Limited and constructed formats. Its purpose is to allow a player to sacrifice the land to search their library for a basic land card, effectively thinning the deck and smoothing out color requirements for multicolored decks. Over the years, the card has become a staple of Magic: The Gathering, frequently reprinted in various core sets and supplemental products to ensure accessibility for players across all skill levels.

The Commander 2018 iteration of the card features illustration by Steven Belledin, who has contributed art to the game since the mid-2000s. Belledin’s depiction focuses on the rugged, untamed nature of the environment, emphasizing the wild aesthetic of the shifting landscape.
