Where it came from
Fact or Fiction was originally printed in the Invasion expansion for the Magic: The Gathering card game in 2000. It quickly became a staple of competitive play due to its immense efficiency in card selection and advantage. The card's ability to force an opponent to split five cards into two piles, allowing the caster to choose one, introduced a unique psychological element to tournament gameplay that tested both player skill and game knowledge.
The 2001 World Championship Decks were a commemorative product designed to replicate the exact deck lists used by top players at the world tournament that year. The Fact or Fiction card in this set features the signature of the player who utilized it in their deck, along with a distinct gold-bordered back. These decks were intended to provide players with a high-level competitive experience, and the card's art, created by Terese Nielsen, remains widely celebrated for its evocative and surreal aesthetic.
