Fact or Fiction

Fact or Fiction was originally printed in the 2001 set Invasion as an uncommon, quickly becoming a staple of control decks due to its powerful card selection ability. When it was selected for inclusion in the 2016 Eternal Masters set, it was bumped to a rare rarity to balance the draft environment of the set, while maintaining its reputation as one of the most skill-intensive cards in Magic: The Gathering history.

The artwork for this version was commissioned from artist Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the psychological tension of the card's namesake mechanic. By depicting a mage presenting two distinct piles of information to an opponent, Voss emphasized the player-interaction aspect of the card, which forces an opponent to make a difficult strategic choice. The illustration was well-received by the community for its clarity and thematic alignment with the card's iconic gameplay effect.
