Where it came from
Fade from History was released as part of the promotional set for The Brothers' War in late 2022. The card features an alternate borderless illustration by artist Magali Villeneuve, who was tasked with reimagining the card's theme of magical decay and historical erasure. This specific printing was designed to provide players with a visually distinct version of the powerful board wipe effect that defines the card's utility in Commander and other eternal formats.
The artwork reflects the set's central narrative, which centers on the devastating conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra and the resulting technological ruin of their world. Villeneuve's design emphasizes the aesthetic of artifact destruction, utilizing muted tones and flowing lines to convey the crumbling of ancient mechanical marvels. Upon release, the promo was well-received by players for its artistic departure from the traditional mechanical art style found in the main set.
