Where it came from
Fade from History was released as part of the 2022 The Brothers' War expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a card within the 'Promos' subset, this specific version features unique foil treatments and extended art designs intended to showcase the aesthetic breadth of the set. The card depicts the destruction of ancient artifacts, thematic to the set's central conflict between the artificer brothers Urza and Mishra, which serves as a foundational piece of lore in the game's expansive multiverse.
The card was illustrated by artist Campbell White. The design work focuses on a cinematic, high-fantasy style meant to convey the sudden, catastrophic disintegration of powerful mechanical constructs. Upon its introduction, the card was received by players as a versatile utility spell for Commander and casual formats, valued for its ability to clear the board of artifact-based threats while fitting into the strategic archetypes associated with green-aligned decks.
