Where it came from
Fae of Wishes // Granted was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set drew heavily from Arthurian legend and European folklore, reimagining these classic tropes through the lens of high fantasy. The card functions as a 'split' card, featuring a creature on the front and a sorcery on the back, a design choice intended to represent the whimsical and transactional nature of faerie bargains found in traditional tales.
The artwork for this specific promotional version was created by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent illustrator in the fantasy gaming space. Villeneuve utilized a rich, atmospheric palette to emphasize the mystical and deceptive allure of the fae. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its versatility in competitive formats, particularly its ability to access cards from outside the active game, which added a unique layer of strategic complexity to deck building.
