Where it came from
The Faerie token, identified as collector number 4 within the Brothers' War Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. It was designed to support the specific mechanics of the 'Urza's Iron Alliance' deck, which utilizes various artifact and creature synergies. Tokens in this series are produced to serve as temporary visual representations on the battlefield, intended to be both functional for gameplay and representative of the aesthetic themes of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
The illustration for this token reflects the whimsical yet intricate art style characteristic of modern Magic: The Gathering creature designs. These tokens are created by the internal art direction team to ensure consistency with the broader set's visual language, which focuses on the historical conflict between the artificer brothers Urza and Mishra. While individual token artists are rarely credited on the cards themselves, the design follows established creature types that have been part of the game's lore for decades.
