Provenance

Where it came from

The Inkling token was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War Commander set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These tokens represent the mechanical manifestation of Inklings—small, flying creatures associated with the Silverquill college from the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion—which were reintroduced to players through the specialized decks accompanying the retro-themed Brothers' War release.

The illustration was created by artist Livia Prima, who rendered the creature with the characteristic stark, high-contrast aesthetic associated with the ink-magic practitioners of the Orzhov-aligned Silverquill faction. The design emphasizes the creature's ethereal, fluid nature, utilizing a monochromatic palette to ground the token within the established visual identity of the Strixhaven setting while maintaining the functional clarity required for tabletop play.
