Faith's Fetters

Faith's Fetters was originally released in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds set, designed as a versatile common-rarity enchantment intended to provide players with a way to neutralize powerful creatures or artifacts while gaining a small amount of life. Its functional design—a pacifism variant with a broader scope—made it a staple in limited formats and a reliable tool for white-aligned decks that prioritized stalling the board. The card’s mechanics reflect the flavor of the Azorius Senate, the law-giving guild of the Ravnica plane, which seeks to impose order and restrict the actions of chaotic entities.

The version from Ultimate Masters, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Howard Lyon. This printing was part of a curated set designed to bring high-demand cards and draft favorites to a premium audience, often featuring aesthetic updates to classic staples. Lyon’s illustration captures the ethereal, binding nature of the spell, moving away from the more literal, shackles-based imagery of the original printing to something more mystical and grand in scope. It was received as a welcomed reprint, maintaining the card's status as a fundamental utility piece for players focused on control-oriented strategies.
