Provenance

Where it came from

Shielding Plax was first released in the 2006 Dissension set for Magic: The Gathering, designed by the Wizards of the Coast team to provide protective utility for creatures in a Simic-themed deck. The card illustrates the intersection of nature and artifice core to the Simic Combine, a faction defined by their focus on biological experimentation and evolutionary enhancement.

The Ultimate Masters version, released in 2018, features updated card frame styling while retaining the original illustrative intent. This reprint served to provide players with a functional defensive tool within a curated draft environment, emphasizing the card's enduring role in protecting key creatures from targeted removal and aura-based disruption.
