Feed the Swarm

Feed the Swarm is a black sorcery card first introduced in the Zendikar Rising expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2020. It was designed to provide black decks with a rare, unconditional answer to enchantments, a permanent type that black had historically struggled to interact with directly. The design space for this card was intentional, shifting the color pie to grant black a functional tool for removing enchantments at the cost of the caster losing life equal to the permanent's mana value.

The card’s artwork, illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, depicts a chaotic, swarming mass of insectoid creatures devouring a magical essence. Kieryluk’s visceral style emphasizes the parasitic and destructive nature of the spell, effectively communicating its mechanical effect through dark, atmospheric imagery. The card has since been reprinted in various supplemental products, including the Starter Commander Decks, where it serves as a staple utility card for players looking to broaden their deck's removal capabilities.
