Fervent Cathar

Fervent Cathar was originally introduced in the Dark Ascension set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, later appearing as a reprint in the 2016 Eternal Masters set. This card reflects the Gothic horror aesthetic of the Innistrad block, depicting a human warrior dedicated to the defense of the church against the encroaching forces of vampires and werewolves. The Eternal Masters set was designed specifically to provide players with access to powerful and iconic cards that were otherwise difficult to obtain for competitive play, effectively acting as a curated retrospective of the game's history.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Matt Stewart, who sought to capture the fervor and militant intensity of a soldier serving the Church of Avacyn. His design emphasizes the character's swiftness and conviction, visually translating the card's haste mechanic into a dynamic, battle-ready stance. The card was generally received by the community as a functional common-rarity creature that served to add flavor and tactical utility to limited-format drafting environments within the Eternal Masters set.
