Fire Drake

Fire Drake was released in 1995 as part of the Chronicles expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Chronicles served as a reprint set, designed by Wizards of the Coast to bring back older, rare, and out-of-print cards from earlier sets like Legends and The Dark to a wider audience, as original print runs had become difficult for many players to acquire.

The card features artwork by Susan Van Camp, whose distinct illustrative style characterized much of the mid-90s aesthetic for the game. The piece depicts the creature in a classic fantasy posture, aiming to capture the imposing nature of a fire-breathing dragon. While the set received mixed reactions from collectors at the time due to the impact of reprinting on secondary market values, it remains a notable example of the early game's attempt to balance accessibility with expansion growth.
