Provenance

Where it came from

First Responder was released as part of the New Capenna Commander set in 2022, a thematic expansion for Magic: The Gathering that explored the art-deco, noir-inspired plane of New Capenna. The card was specifically issued as a promotional variant, designed to capture the gritty, industrial atmosphere of the setting where organized crime families vie for control over the city's vital resources.

The illustration was crafted to evoke the urgency and protective nature of the card's mechanics, aligning with the set's focus on creature-based combat and tactical board presence. As a promotional release, it serves as a distinct collectible for players and fans of the game's broader narrative, reflecting the detailed world-building aesthetic established by Wizards of the Coast for this unique plane.
