Where it came from
The First Sliver's Chosen card from the Modern Horizons Art Series was released in 2019 as part of a specialized subset of collectible cards designed to showcase the expanded illustration of modern Magic: The Gathering artwork. These art cards were distributed in specific booster packs to celebrate the intricate detail of the game's visuals, decoupling the high-quality character art from the mechanical gameplay elements found on standard cards.
The design of this specific card features the artwork by illustrator Greg Staples, who was tasked with visualizing a member of the Sliver hive—a creature archetype defined by its collective consciousness and adaptive biology. The series was well-received by collectors for its gallery-like presentation, emphasizing the technical craftsmanship of the fantasy illustrations without the constraints of card text and game borders.
