Fleetfoot Panther

The Fleetfoot Panther was released in 2001 as part of the Planeshift expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set concluded the three-part Invasion block, which centered on a massive conflict between the plane of Dominaria and the biomechanical threat of the Phyrexians. Within the game's mechanics, the card represented the agile, defensive nature of the green-aligned forces during the war, utilizing an 'enter the battlefield' trigger that forced players to manage their board state strategically.

The card’s artwork was provided by illustrator Ray Lago, who rendered the creature with a distinct emphasis on its feline anatomy and jungle-based camouflage. Lago’s work during this period was characterized by a balance between anatomical realism and the high-fantasy aesthetic prevalent in turn-of-the-millennium card design. Upon its arrival, the card was received as a functional, mid-range utility creature that rewarded players for timing their deployments effectively, cementing its place as a recognizable staple of the Planeshift set.
