Fleetfoot Panther

The Fleetfoot Panther originally debuted in the Planeshift expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2001. As a set, Planeshift served as the second installment in the Invasion block, which centered on the narrative conflict between the forces of the coalition and the invading Phyrexian empire. The card was designed as a creature with flash, a mechanic that allowed players to cast it at any time they could cast an instant, reflecting the feline creature's ability to ambush opponents during gameplay.

The illustration for the card was provided by artist Darrell Riche, who leaned into the aggressive, predatory nature of the creature within the game's fantasy aesthetic. While the card was a common inclusion during its initial printing, its later appearance as part of 'The List'—a rotating selection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast for inclusion in Set Boosters—introduced the card to a new generation of players. Its inclusion in this specific list serves as a nod to the game's long history, providing collectors with a way to obtain older cards featuring the modern card frame and set-specific branding.
