Where it came from
Foresight was released in 1996 as part of the Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to address issues with the previous Ice Age expansion, introducing a smaller, more focused card pool that emphasized tactical depth. It served as a bridge between the early, high-variance sets of the game's infancy and the more structured mechanics that would define modern play.
The card features artwork by Anson Maddocks, a foundational artist for the game known for his surreal and often unsettling style. His depiction of a crystalline, multi-faceted eye captures the theme of divination and future-sight central to the blue color philosophy. The piece was well-regarded for its ethereal aesthetic, which helped solidify the game's identity during its formative growth period.
