Form of the Dragon

Form of the Dragon was originally printed in the Scourge set in 2003 before being reprinted in Ninth Edition with the collector number 187. As a red enchantment, it represents a high-concept design intended to mechanically replicate the experience of transforming into a powerful draconic creature, forcing the player's life total to five and granting them the ability to deal damage each turn.

The artwork was commissioned from fantasy illustrator Carl Critchlow, who utilized his signature bold, comic-influenced style to depict the visceral transformation process. While the card is often discussed by players for its niche utility and complex rules interactions, it remains a beloved artifact of mid-2000s Magic: The Gathering design, capturing the thematic flair that defined the era's rare enchantments.
