Where it came from
Fortune, Loyal Steed was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The card was designed to represent the adventurous, high-stakes aesthetic of the plane, a frontier-inspired setting that blends traditional western motifs with the fantasy elements inherent to the Multiverse. It belongs to the set's cycle of mounts, intended to provide strategic synergy for players focusing on creature-based combat and board presence.
The illustration for this card was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who focused on capturing the bond between a rider and their mount amidst the rugged terrain of Thunder Junction. The design emphasizes a sense of loyalty and agility, reflecting the creature's gameplay mechanics which reward players for attacking with multiple creatures. Upon its release, the card was noted for its utility in limited formats, where its ability to scry and draw cards provided necessary consistency for aggressive decks.
