Where it came from
Fortune, Loyal Steed was released as part of the promotional card set for the Magic: The Gathering expansion Outlaws of Thunder Junction in 2024. This set leaned heavily into a Western genre aesthetic, reimagining the game's multiverse through the lens of a high-stakes frontier landscape. As a promo card, this specific iteration serves as a stylistic variant intended to highlight the set's thematic commitment to outlaws, mounts, and the rugged individualism of the plane's lore.
The design of Fortune, Loyal Steed emphasizes the visual language of the Thunder Junction setting, characterized by warm, desert-inspired tones and the classic iconography of the American West. The illustration was crafted to evoke the bond between a rider and their mount, capturing a sense of companionship amidst a harsh, lawless backdrop. It was well-received by players for its vibrant art style and its integration into the broader set's mechanical focus on creature synergy.
