Where it came from
Giant Killer // Chop Down was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set for Magic: The Gathering. The card features an adventure mechanic, a design choice intended to mirror the folklore and fairy-tale motifs prevalent throughout the set, which draws heavy inspiration from Arthurian legend and Brothers Grimm stories. This specific promo version was distributed through organized play events, serving as a reward for participants.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who focused on capturing the iconic scale disparity inherent in the 'Jack and the Beanstalk' archetype. His design emphasizes the contrast between the small, determined knight and the looming giant, effectively communicating the card's function as a versatile removal spell. Upon its release, the card saw significant competitive play, garnering praise for its utility and thematic resonance with the set's broader design goals.
