Provenance

Where it came from

The Giant Warrior token was released as part of the Shadowmoor expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in May 2008. Designed to represent the specific creature type summoned by cards within the set, such as 'Steward of Valeron', these tokens were included in randomized booster packs to facilitate gameplay mechanics that require physical markers on the battlefield.

The artwork for this token was illustrated by Steve Prescott, a prolific artist for the game known for his dynamic and textured style. Prescott sought to capture the rugged, imposing aesthetic of the Shadowmoor plane, emphasizing the raw physical presence of the Giant Warrior through earthy tones and an exaggerated, muscular posture that fit the set's dark, gothic fantasy themes.
