Where it came from
Gix's Command is a card from the Art Series released alongside The Brothers' War in 2022. These cards were distributed as promotional items in Magic: The Gathering collector boosters, designed to showcase the intricate, full-bleed illustrations created for the expansion. The set serves as a narrative return to the iconic conflict between Urza and Mishra, representing the dark influence of the Phyrexian Praetor Gix during this historic era.
The illustration was crafted by artist Volkan Baga, who is widely recognized for his painterly, high-fantasy style. Baga aimed to depict the malevolent presence of Gix with a sense of mechanical dread and liturgical gravity, fitting the character’s role as a herald of Phyrexian corruption. The artwork was well-received by the community for its rich color palette and atmospheric tension, successfully translating the card's complex gameplay effects into a singular, haunting visual composition.
