Goat

The Goat token, numbered 2 in the Tales of Middle-earth Commander Tokens set, was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. These tokens were produced to facilitate gameplay mechanics involving cards that create temporary Goat creature tokens, specifically those appearing in the Commander deck expansions centered on the Middle-earth theme. The token serves as a functional game piece for players navigating the complex board state of the Commander format.

The artwork for this specific token adheres to the aesthetic direction established for the Lord of the Rings set, aiming for a grounded, fantasy-illustrative style that complements the main card releases. While not attributed to a single iconic illustrator in the same manner as legendary creature cards, the design follows the collaborative visual guidelines set by Wizards of the Coast to maintain thematic consistency across the expanded product line. It was received by the player base as a utilitarian collectible that enhances the visual cohesion of Middle-earth themed decks.
