Goat

The Goat token, cataloged as number 1 in the Theros Beyond Death tokens set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in January 2020. It serves as a mechanical supplement for Magic: The Gathering gameplay, specifically intended to represent the 0/1 creature entities generated by cards such as 'Careless Celebrant' or other mechanics within the Theros block that utilize the flavor of Greek mythology-inspired pastoral life.

The artwork was commissioned to maintain the aesthetic continuity of the Theros Beyond Death expansion, which focuses on the underworld and the interplay between mortal life and the divine. The design team focused on a visual style that echoes the classic, somewhat whimsical depiction of these creatures within the game's broader mythology, ensuring that players could easily distinguish the token from standard playable cards while adhering to the thematic gloom and heroic tension prevalent in the set's primary art direction.
