Guardians of Oboro // Guardians of Oboro

The Guardians of Oboro card is part of the Art Series released alongside the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2022. These cards were designed as collector pieces to highlight the high-fantasy aesthetic of the set, which blended traditional Japanese folklore with futuristic cyberpunk elements. They were distributed in specific promotional packs to offer players and enthusiasts a closer look at the intricate card illustrations without the distraction of game mechanics or text boxes.

The artwork was created by Igor Kieryluk, an established fantasy illustrator known for his dynamic composition and atmospheric use of light. His design for this piece focuses on the ethereal, protective spirits associated with the legendary Oboro palace, capturing a sense of ancient serenity contrasted against the technological backdrop of the modern Kamigawa plane. Upon release, the series was well-received by the community for its high-quality foil stamping and its ability to showcase the artistry that defines the long-running franchise.
