Holy Strength

Holy Strength was first introduced in the Alpha set in 1993, emerging as a foundational common card that defined early White-aligned strategy in Magic: The Gathering. Its primary function—to provide a stat boost and a color-specific keyword—was a core design pillar during the game’s formative years, serving as a staple of limited and casual play for over a decade. By the time it reached the Ninth Edition core set in 2005, the card had become a hallmark of the game's classic aesthetic, representing a simple but effective mechanical tool.

The Ninth Edition illustration was crafted by artist Scott M. Fischer, who utilized his signature expressive, painterly style to provide a fresh interpretation of the iconic enchantment. Moving away from the more literal medieval imagery found on early iterations of the card, Fischer’s version focused on a dynamic, ethereal depiction of divine intervention. This version was well-received by the player base for its ability to contemporize a vintage card while maintaining the thematic gravity essential to the identity of White magic.
