Where it came from
Hylda's Crown of Winter was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was introduced as a promotional card, specifically featuring a distinct showcase frame design intended to capture the whimsical, storybook-inspired aesthetic of the Eldraine plane. This thematic choice reflects the set's foundation in European folklore and classic fairy tales, reimagined through the lens of a high-fantasy multiversal setting.
The card’s illustration was crafted to evoke the cold, ethereal elegance of winter royalty, aligning with the mechanical identity of Hylda of the Icy Crown. By utilizing a stylized, ornate border, the design team aimed to emphasize the card's status as a regal artifact, distinguishing it from standard-frame cards in the set. Upon its release, the card saw immediate interest from collectors and players alike, particularly those focused on the 'Commander' format, where its thematic art and utility made it a desirable piece of memorabilia.
