Where it came from
Hylda's Crown of Winter was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific card, numbered 247p, serves as a promotional variant of the original card found in the main set. The design draws heavily from the Arthurian and fairy-tale aesthetic of the Eldraine plane, featuring imagery meant to evoke the chilling, regal essence of Hylda, the crown-wearing queen of the winter court.
The card was designed to support a specific playstyle focused on tapping opponent's permanents, a hallmark of the blue-white color identity in this expansion. The artwork and mechanical design were crafted by Wizards of the Coast's internal creative team to emphasize the 'Enchanting Tales' theme that permeated the set. Upon its release, it was well-received by players interested in control-based archetypes and thematic collection, often sought after for its distinct holographic foiling process unique to the promo treatment.
