Illusion

The Illusion token, numbered 6 in the Zendikar Rising set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020, was created to support the mechanics of the Zendikar Rising expansion. In this set, certain cards generate 1/1 Illusion creature tokens with flying to represent ephemeral manifestations of magical force. These tokens serve a functional role in gameplay, acting as physical placeholders for creatures that exist on the battlefield without being represented by a standard card.

The artwork for this specific token was commissioned to align with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Zendikar plane, a world characterized by its floating landmasses and roiling, chaotic environment. The design prioritizes a ethereal, translucent appearance to emphasize the nature of an illusion, consistent with the visual language established by the artists contributing to the set. Upon its release, it became a standard utility piece for players drafting or playing constructed formats featuring cards like 'Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner' or other spells capable of producing these tokens.
