Where it came from
The Illusion token, numbered 6 in the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 to support the diverse mechanics introduced in the Modern Horizons 3 expansion. Tokens in this set were designed to represent summoned creatures created by specific cards, such as those featuring the 'manifest dread' or 'create an Illusion' mechanics, ensuring players have physical representations on the battlefield.
The visual identity of these tokens reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The design team focused on creating a ethereal, translucent aesthetic that captures the ephemeral nature of an Illusion, ensuring that the art style remains cohesive with the broader card set while remaining distinct enough to be immediately recognizable by players during gameplay.
