Where it came from
The Illusion token, numbered 7 in the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander series, was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were specifically produced to support the mechanics of the Prismari Performance Commander deck, which focused on spell-slinging and temporary magical constructs. Within the lore of the game, the token represents the ephemeral yet potent magical manifestations created by the students of the Strixhaven University of Magic.
The design of this token features artwork commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to reflect the aesthetic of the Strixhaven campus, emphasizing a blend of academic tradition and raw, elemental energy. Like most tokens in the set, it was designed to provide a clear, functional visual aid for players during gameplay, prioritizing readability while maintaining the high artistic standards consistent with contemporary Magic: The Gathering card releases. It has since become a standard inclusion for collectors focused on the Commander format's supplementary sets.
