Imperial Seal

Imperial Seal was originally printed in the 1999 Portal Three Kingdoms set, a product designed to introduce the game of Magic: The Gathering to the Asian market with themes drawn from the historical Chinese epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The card is mechanically significant for its ability to tutor any card to the top of the deck for a low mana cost, making it a staple in competitive formats like Commander and Legacy. Its rarity and limited initial print run contributed to its status as a highly sought-after collectible for over two decades.

The 2022 Double Masters version, featuring artwork by Magali Villeneuve, was released as part of a premium set designed to highlight powerful cards from the game's history. Villeneuve’s illustration captures the gravitas and authority associated with the card's namesake, moving away from the more traditional aesthetic of the original portal-era design to a modern, refined style. This printing was received warmly by the community as it provided long-term players and collectors with an accessible, high-quality version of a card that had previously remained prohibitively scarce.
