Where it came from
Impulse is a classic blue instant spell originally printed in the 1996 Visions expansion. It is highly regarded by players for its efficiency, allowing a caster to look at the top four cards of their library, put one into their hand, and place the rest on the bottom of the library in any order. The card was designed to provide card selection rather than pure card advantage, balancing power with a strategic cost.
The version from Dominaria United, collector number 55, features updated artwork by artist Joshua Raphael. This release served to reintroduce the card into the Standard format, maintaining its status as a staple in various constructed formats. The design focus for this iteration was to provide a functional reprint that fits within the high-fantasy aesthetic established for the return to the plane of Dominaria, honoring the original spell's legacy while refreshing its visual presentation.
