Where it came from
The card titled Impulse, numbered BBD-119, originates from The List, a curated selection of cards that periodically appears within Magic: The Gathering booster packs. The List was introduced by Wizards of the Coast as a method to bring older, out-of-print cards back into circulation, allowing players to pull reprints from the game's expansive history alongside modern content. The presence of the Planeswalker symbol in the bottom-left corner serves as the hallmark identifier for these specific reissued cards.
The original art and design for Impulse were crafted by artist Anthony S. Waters, first debuting in the 1996 Visions set. The card is designed as an instant, embodying the blue color identity's focus on card selection and library manipulation by allowing a player to look at the top four cards of their library, choose one, and place the rest at the bottom. Since its inception, it has been received by the player community as a staple of efficiency and strategic depth in various formats.
