Where it came from
In Too Deep was released in 2022 as part of the New Capenna Commander set, specifically featured as a promotional card. Designed for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, the card serves as a blue enchantment that functions as a removal spell by transforming a creature into a Fish, fitting the thematic 'noir' and 'organized crime' aesthetic established in the Streets of New Capenna expansion.
The illustration for the card was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan. Setiawan utilized a moody, atmospheric style that aligns with the art deco-inspired urban landscape of the plane, emphasizing the themes of entrapment and subversion central to the card's mechanical utility. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its efficiency in Commander format games, where it provides a versatile way to neutralize powerful enemy commanders without triggering death-related abilities.
